RWMA brings back The Emmett A. Craig RWMA Resistance Welding School in Birmingham, Ala., to offer training and cover the fundamentals of resistance welding.
The Resistance Welding Manufacturers Alliance (RWMA) and AWS will again bring resistance welding experts together during the Emmett A. Craig Resistance Welding School to offer training and share the experiences, techniques, and tips they have honed throughout their careers.
This intensive two-day course will be held January 24 and 25, 2023, at SpringHill Suites by Marriott Birmingham Downtown, University of Alabama at Birmingham. It will be packed with informative and instructional sessions, including practical application of resistance welding theory, equipment explanations, application requirements, and more.
The course is designed for personnel in a variety of roles, such as welding and production managers and supervisors, engineers and technicians, setup and senior operators, trainers, and educators. Students will emerge from the course with a better understanding of resistance welding fundamentals. The curriculum will focus on the electrical power system, welding controls, electrodes and tooling, machine setup and maintenance, materials, and spot and projection weld standards and quality. There will also be a Q&A panel for students to get feedback on their specific applications from the instructors.
“For over 40 years, the RWMA School has been conducted by various instructors who are the leaders in their specialties. So, you’ll learn about welder controls, transformers, tooling, troubleshooting and the variables of the resistance welding process. It is a very good way to get a basic understanding of the process and to improve the quality of the welds where you work, so it is highly recommended,” said Tom Snow, chair of T. J. Snow Co. and AWS Certified Resistance Welding Technician (CRWT).
The instructors include Don DeCorte, vice president of resistance welding products at RoMan Mfg. Inc., RWMA chair, AWS CRWT; Don Sorenson, engineering, ENTRON Controls; Donald F. Maatz Jr., welding engineer and lab manager, R&E Engineering Services; and Kendall Ymker, senior sales application engineer, RoMan Mfg. Inc.
“There are no books or even YouTube videos that give you all this material in such a live and interactive format,” said DeCorte.
